 t events have been overwhelming: The threat to democracy that our country 
 is currently facing is dire. Income inequality is higher than ever\, there
  is a worldwide migration crisis\, ever more violent suppression of margin
 alized peoples\, and oligarchs promote war to pursue control over increasi
 ngly limited natural resources.\n\n\nIn this fight\, we must not forget wh
 at it is that we are fighting for. Authoritarians have found a foothold in
  politics because of the profound inequities that politics-as-usual has no
 t addressed. Instead of clean air and water\, we have increasing toxins in
  our environment and increasing health impacts (cancer\, autism\, asthma).
  Our food system is broken and imperiled. We talk about antiracism while w
 e ship our waste to communities and nations whose residents have darker sk
 in tones. Trump claimed he would lower the cost of living and enable worki
 ng people to meet their basic needs with dignity — but in his first year
  of presidency he has shut down renewable energy projects and investments\
 , causing electricity bills to rise across the nation. \n\nTHE CLIMATE EME
 RGENCY IS THE EMERGENCY. Scientists say we have entered a period of abrupt
  climate and ecological breakdown. We have very little time to avoid socie
 tal collapse.\n\nIn our Heading for Extinction talk\, we share the science
 \, explore how governments and corporations are lying to us\, and invite y
 ou to join the movement and help turn the tide. Humanity needs you!\n\nThe
  talk will begin at 2 pm.\n\nThe talk is interactive and lasts approximate
 ly 1 hour. There will be time for questions and discussion during and afte
 rwards.  A live stream option will be available to those who are unable to
  physically make it to the event\, though\, in-person attendance is strong
 ly recommended.
