DESCRIPTION:Event details: https://xrboston.org/action/no-eastie-substatio
n-action-mar10/\n\nJoin us in the Condor Street Urban Wild in East Boston
for another peaceful and colorful rally protesting the construction of the
Eastie substation. It already has been **2 months since Eversource has br
oken ground\, but the Healey administration has not acted.** We continue o
ur #NoEastieSubstation campaign and are calling on Governor Healey and fir
st-in-the-nation Climate Chief Hoffer to intervene on the local community'
s behalf.\n\n**Our Demands**\n\n1. We demand that the East Boston substati
on project be moved to Massport. They are the largest single user of elect
ricity in East Boston.\n2. Explore options for community control of energy
infrastructure in East Boston to address systemic inequalities and promot
e environmental justice.\n3. Ensure a conservative design of the facility
for realistic climate crisis scenarios and compensate the community commen
surate with the waterfront and public use that they have lost.\n\n**Some B
ackground: **\n\nA substation is a piece of infrastructure that allows hig
h voltage electricity to be dropped to a lower distribution level voltage
that can be used in households. The proposed site is poorly chosen: Close
to Chelsea creek\, in a densely populated community\, adjacent to a playgr
ound & soccer field and only a few hundred feet from a large storage area
for Massport’s jet fuel. Due to the location being a climate-induced flo
od zone\, community members are [concerned about the possibility of an exp
 losive accident](https://www.wbur.org/earthwhile/2019/08/22/eversource-eas
t-boston-substation-eagle-hill). \n\nNearly 84 percent of Boston voters ca
st their ballots in opposition to an electric substation that Eversource p
lans to build along the Chelsea Creek in the Eagle Hill neighborhood of Ea
st Boston. Unfortunately this ballot question is non-binding. Shortly afte
rward Eversource has filed a special request that supersedes 14 local and
state environmental review processes with the Executive Office of Energy a
nd Environmental Affairs. That certificate was granted in November 2022 so
that Eversource could start construction of the East Boston substation on
January 10 \, 2023.\n\nProtests have intensified since the beginning of t
he construction. Here some examples of coverage:\n\n* [CBS News Jan 17\, 2
