DESCRIPTION:Event details: https://xrboston.org/action/solidarity-ice-out-
of-ma-courts-waltham/\n\n**Protect our communities from ICE in Massachuset
ts courts**\n\nConcerned community members have witnessed escalating numbe
rs of violent ICE arrests at MA courts alongside the complicity of court o
fficials\, staff\, security\, and local police officers. Many poor\, Black
\, brown and other marginalized ethnic immigrant community members are ove
r-policed and over-surveilled\, thereby representing a disproportionate sh
are of individuals summoned to court for criminal proceedings. They are ad
ditionally being singled out by federal enforcement actions unrelated to t
heir reasons for being in our state courts. This is one of many ways in wh
ich our state’s public institutions are being used as deportation traps.
The current federally mandated campaign of terror levied against immigran
ts\, and those racially profiled as “immigrant\,” puts us all in dange
r.\n\nOur state government has a responsibility to do everything in its po
wer to stop its courts from being used as staging grounds for targeting an
d handing over our community members to federal immigration officers.\n\nP
lease sign this petition to tell public and elected leaders to keep ICE ou
t of Massachusetts courts: https://www.lucemass.org/courts\n\nWhy does thi
s matter to Extinction Rebellion Boston?\n\n1. Just Transition demand: The
re must be a just transition that prioritizes the most vulnerable people a
nd establishes indigenous sovereignty and remediation led by and for commu
nities suffering environmental injustice.\n2. The intersection of the clim
ate crisis and migration creates a cycle where environmental displacement
forced by ecological collapse is met with the securitization of borders an
d the expansion of for-profit detention systems.
