DESCRIPTION:Event details: https://xrboston.org/action/solidarity-no-easti
e-substation-parade/\n\nJoin us for the next episode of the the #NoEastieS
ubstation campaign. This time we will have a another peaceful and colorful
clown parade in East Boston. We meet at Maverick square to call \nGoverno
r Healey to stop clowning around with the East Boston community. It is not
funny to build a dangerous high-voltage substation across a playground. F
eel free to join us in your own clown costume. **Despite promises to revie
w the legal requirements\, the Healey administration has not acted.** We c
ontinue our #NoEastieSubstation campaign and are calling on Governor Heale
y and first-in-the-nation Climate Chief Hoffer to intervene on the local c
ommunity's behalf. \n\n**Our Demands**\n\n1. We demand that the substation
project be moved to Massport. They are the largest single user of electri
city in East Boston.\n2. Explore options for community control of energy i
nfrastructure in East Boston to address systemic inequalities and promote
environmental justice.\n3. Ensure a conservative design of the facility fo
r realistic climate crisis scenarios and compensate the community commensu
rate with the waterfront and public use that they have lost.\n\n**Some Bac
kground: **\n\nA substation is a piece of infrastructure that allows high
voltage electricity to be dropped to a lower distribution level voltage th
at can be used in households. The proposed site is poorly chosen: Close to
Chelsea creek\, in a densely populated community\, adjacent to a playgrou
nd & soccer field and only a few hundred feet from a large storage area fo
r Massport’s jet fuel. Due to the location being a climate-induced flood
zone\, community members are [concerned about the possibility of an explo
 sive accident](https://www.wbur.org/earthwhile/2019/08/22/eversource-east-
boston-substation-eagle-hill). \n\nNearly 84 percent of Boston voters cast
their ballots in opposition to an electric substation that Eversource pla
ns to build along the Chelsea Creek in the Eagle Hill neighborhood of East
Boston. Unfortunately this ballot question is non-binding. Shortly afterw
ard Eversource has filed a special request that supersedes 14 local and st
ate environmental review processes with the Executive Office of Energy and
Environmental Affairs. That certificate was granted in November 2022 so t
hat Eversource could start construction of the East Boston substation on J
anuary 10 \, 2023.\n\nProtests have intensified since the beginning of the
construction. Here some examples of coverage:\n\n* [CBS News Jan 17\, 202
