Beach Funeral

Revere Beach Funeral

Friday, Jul 07

Celebrate the ocean diversity and mourn our losses with a beach funeral at Revere Beach. MEETING LOCATION UPDATE: We will meet at the Reinstein Bandstand and walk the beach to mourn the coral reef bleaching, mass marine animal extinction, and ocean plastic pollution. Please dress in black or as your favorite marine animal.

Did you know that ...

  • ... we are currently facing the sixth mass extinction crisis targeting 1 million species.

  • ... the rate of extinction that species are facing now is between 1000 to 10,000 times faster than in the past.

  • ... one-fifth of fish species threatened with extinction. Ocean acidification will kill many marine animals in the coming decades.

  • ... one in three amphibian species is currently threatened with extinction.

A 2015 study states: “The effects of rising ocean temperature extend well beyond coral reefs and are predicted to affect both the adult and juvenile stages of a diverse set of marine species, to reshuffle marine community composition, and to potentially alter the overall structure and dynamics of entire marine faunal communities.”

The meetup location is accessible via the Blue Line (2 minute walk from the Revere Beach stop). Sign up below!
