[solidarity] save the mature Charlestown tree canopy

Friday, Jun 16

Did you have trouble breathing this week? WE NEED MATURE TREES. Do you want to see the first of 258 trees destroyed by David Rubenstein, one of America's wealthiest private equity financier. He claims to be a "Patriotic Philanthropist" to distract from his dangerous record of fueling the climate crisis. Rubenstein promised to divest half of his $4.6 BILLION wealth, and is 74 years old. He is able to SAVE OUR TREES.

What could be more patriotic than to save the mature Charlestown tree canopy, with 20,000 years of tree and leaf growth than on the Bunker Hill Battlefield where Patriots gave their lives for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We need mature trees. It will take 80 years to replace this canopy, in a gigantic 27 acre heat island.

All people deserve an urban tree canopy in their neighborhood There is no valid reason to deprive low income residents the human rights of trees and openspace...they CAN and SHOULD have both. Mayor Wu proclaimed Boston is a "Green New Deal" City and she wants Boston to "be the greenest." Start at the fourth largest public housing development in the country, and keep the mature trees so we can all breathe.

Please attend the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Bunker Hill Housing Redevelopment in Charlestown on June 16, 2023 at 11:30am (Walford Way between Corey Street and Tufts Street). Come speak up for the trees that protect ALL of Charlestown.
