[Solidarity] Taking Back Our Energy Grid Street Theater Action

Wednesday, Nov 01

ISO-NE, our grid operator, is subservient to the fossil fuel industry, and needs to be liberated. We're holding a rally and theatrical battle on Nov. 1 at 12:00 p.m. at the South Boston Maritime Park, barely a skip and hop from the only public ISO-NE board to be held this year, taking place at the Seaport Hotel Boston.

350 Mass’s Climate Courage, Fix the Grid, Third Act are inviting you to participate in a lively street action that will send a clear message to ISO- NE, the press, the governor, and the people of this region. We are calling for the agency to throw off the dark influences of the fossil fuels industries, and shift its mission and governance to one that offers clean, safe, renewable energy, advocates for conservation, and is administered by and for the people of New England. There will be speakers and music to address these points at the rally.

Then, we will commence with a theatrical street battle. We will walk over to the corner of D Street and Congress. There will be brief skirmishes in the street, during the WALK signals. The skirmishes will be between the forces of a green future represented by humans with (human sized) wind turbines and suns, doing battle with skeletons (our future), grim reapers (industry lobbyists, and in this instance, escaped methane), and men in suits (representing the ISO board and fossil fuel executives).
Those supporting each team will have encouraging, loving, or money grubbing chants to fortify their sides. There will be much boasting and shouting as the two sides discuss their last skirmish, then a renewal of the battle between good and evil during the next WALK signal. We will conclude our action by marching down to the door of the hotel, and letting them know we are there.

We would love you to be part of the street theater. If interested, please contact Judith at: storiesalive@gmail.com.

Let us know if you are able to provide a skeleton or grim reaper costume. We will have a few on hand. And we hope you can provide a business suit if you want to represent ISO and the forces of the fossil fuel industry. Be ready to grab a wind turbine, or sun on a stick if you’d like to participate in creating a renewable future. (This is not a civil disobedience event, no arrests, just fun)

If you simply want to attend the action, please let us know by signing up here.

If your organization would like to co-sponsor this event, or you have questions: email Sue at susalson@gmail.com
