Wake Up the Earth: March in the Parade with XR & Join for the Festival!
Join XR's JP Affinity Group and other rebels in marching in the Wake Up the Earth Parade, JP's annual celebration of the Earth as she awakens into Spring from her winter slumber! We'll have banners, flags, puppets and other beautiful things to march with. Bring your flags!
Meet at Curtis Hall, 20 South St, Jamaica Plain at 10:30am. Parade begins at 11am. The march finishes at the festival grounds (Stony Brook Station) at approximately 12pm.
Swing by the XR table at the festival grounds to say hi to fellow rebels and grab some stickers and buttons! Interested in helping with outreach or our craft activity for kids? Sign up here!
Here's the inspiring background of the Wake Up the Earth Festival! (Source: https://www.wakeuptheearth.org/)
The Wake Up the Earth Festival was born on land that was cleared for a highway. When the communities of Jamaica Plain and Roxbury started a grassroots movement with the South-West Corridor Coalition to stop Interstate 95 from cutting through their neighborhoods, they reclaimed that cleared earth and turned it into a farm, a festival, and a tradition now 48 years strong. Every first Saturday in May, thousands return to this space to dance, parade, create, and celebrate our neighborhood's history of activism, expression, and inclusion. Art is how we build and empower our community.
