Heading For Extinction Talk
Recent events have been overwhelming: The threat to democracy our country is currently facing is dire. Income inequality is higher than ever, there is a worldwide migration crisis, ever more violent suppression of marginalized peoples, and oligarchs promote war to pursue control over increasingly limited natural resources.
In this fight, we must not forget what it is that we are fighting for. Authoritarians have found a foothold in politics because of the profound inequities that politics-as-usual has not addressed. Instead of clean and air water, we have increasing toxins in our environment and increasing health impacts (cancer, autism, asthma). Our food system is broken and imperilled. We talk about antiracism while we ship our waste to communities and nations whose residents have darker skin tones. Trump claimed he would lower the cost of living and enable working people to meet their basic needs with dignity — but in his first year of presidency he has shut down renewable energy projects and investments, causing electricity bills to rise across the nation.
THE CLIMATE EMERGENCY IS THE EMERGENCY. Scientists say we have entered a period of abrupt climate and ecological breakdown. We have very little time to avoid societal collapse.
In our Heading for Extinction talk, we share the science, explore how governments and corporations are lying to us, and invite you to join the movement and help turn the tide. Humanity needs you!
The talk will begin at 2 pm.
The talk is interactive and lasts approximately 1 hour. There will be time for questions and discussion during and afterwards.
