March Postering Madness Info Session

Join us for our March Postering Madness Campaign, which will raise awareness of the ongoing extinction of various animal species. We have created simple letter-sized posters that you can print at home and hang in your neighborhood. The posters aim to imitate simple posters that you would hang up if your pet bird flew away or your cat escaped. Instead, we mourn wild animals that are going extinct or getting displaced.

Some Background on the 6th Mass Extinction

The report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was published on February 28. The United Nations report is written by 270 researchers from 67 countries. The report lays out the devastating effects of the climate catastrophe on humanity and all life on Earth.

Global temperatures have already increased by an average of 1.1 degrees Celsius (or 2 degrees Fahrenheit). Additional increase of temperature is already locked in due to lagged effects. Beyond 1.5 degrees Celsius of warming, scientists predict a high likelihood of an irreversible spiral of catastrophic climate impacts.

The report made clear that the climate crisis is harming the planet faster than we can adapt. In fact, the sixth mass extinction is already happening right now. One-third of all plant and animal species could be extinct by 2070, which in turn has effects on respective ecosystems. The IPCC report also points out increased pressure on food production and access which is putting millions worldwide at increased risk of hunger and malnutrition.
